We all know the game of electing U.S. Representatives is pretty much a fix racket. Even with the fact that most voters identify themselves as Independent nowadays and both the Republicans (R) and Democrats (D) have seemed to create a system the rigs the game by making it near impossible for a registered Independent to vote in the primary election. Pretty much all but assuring that the largest pool of voters has not choice but to choose from only two candidates during the final election. And to top it off, many of these official who are selected to represent their part are pushed by a handful of individual who pretty much choose who that person is based primarily upon who raises the most campaign funds. Talk about messed up!
When money rules the election process and almost 90% of the candidates that win the seats in both house are the ones who raise the most money. It really makes you wonder doesn’t it? As I discussed in another one of my blog post, “Why Most Politicians Don’t Deserve Their Jobs,” its pretty hard to know who to elect anymore. In fact, it’s more like, “Who going to do the least amount of damage?” No matter what these predetermined finalists always make lofty promises and the truth be told it is more the big money donors who get them elected nowadays. If you want to know more about this fact, check out OpenSecrets.org.
How Does Money Win Elections?
How is this so? Well in reality it takes a crap load of to trick a large body of people into buying a bad bag of goods. The more money they have, the more money the can spend on market researching, voter psychology and polls that help tell them what the voters needs to hear in order to get elected. The more money they have, the more resources they can spend on making the other person look worse they you are. Not to mention they also need tons of cash to promote these newly found ideas. Creating/pulling off the massive political strategies/campaigns while producing and mass distributing a series of customized messages/ad’s whose soul purpose is to tricks as many different voters into believing the politician can lead (when the really can’t) and help take America in the direction in the voters want (which they never do) is not cheap… 😉 Hell… Every fricken media outlet in the nation keeps tabs on who raises the most money in their given state like it a good thing…wtf!
So once they have piles of cash they hire the right team that are usually very good at locating and approaching the right voting groups. Allowing them to systematically focus on the larger voting blocks in any give community as they are usually very quick to discarding the rest so they can maximize the best return on their political investment. So don’t expect to get an actual appearance from a candidate or to hear a personal message that speaks to your town or demographic unless you are one of large enough demographically inclined voting groups who are important enough to talk to… At the same time, as all of this is going on, they also need those piles of cash to spend on making sure they can adapt to the attacks their political adversaries are throwing their way as well.
So the truth is, the politician who gets the most face and media time is usually the one with the deepest pockets and wins the election even regardless of who is really the best person for the job. Ironically, it is almost always the biggest fundraiser in any political party. And even though there are regularly a decent amount of great candidates to chose from who seem to have some great ideas, a lot passion, skill and integrity to do good by the American people. They usually fall to the back of the line unless they can tow the party line and raise a crap load of money. The system is so ass backwards it fricken insane! After all, it makes perfect sense the elect a greater fundraiser over a good leader with great ideas… said no one ever!
So, did I miss anything…hahaha
So How Do We Flip The Script?
Let’s face reality folks. We all know that the odds of getting an honest politician that will truly represent the voter in this electoral system is very grim. Especially when these candidate are deep in the pockets of so few these companies/elitists who are very good at getting their guy in office as this system only seem to as they quit often get what they pay for while the voters get screwed. Most of these donor pay little to no taxes, get huge government payouts, contract and kickback . As every year passes these lawmakers (who supposedly work for us) created more rules and regulation’s that take more of our money while almost always hurting the voters while protecting those who don’t really need it more and more every year. Even a recent study by Princeton has concluded that we now live in an Oligarchy which means we are pretty much ruled by those with money because of this reality. In a tragic twist of ironey, these people are simply to stupid to realize that if they don’t stop they will eventually lose everything in the end and we will all suffer from this process no matter how much money they now have because of it. But hey, as long as they get that short term gratification, who gives a crap right?
The sad part is the only thing you need to do to solve this problem is VOTE! Na. Just kidding. Lol It’s a little more complicated than that but there are many potential solutions available. You just don’t know what they are…yet! But’ I’ll share some of them with you though in this blog post series. The one thing I want you to do is think of creative ways to help solve this problem and share them with us. Currently, I’m in the process of trying to put together a short documentary film that focus on encouraging the Millennial generation and younger to come up with or finding solutions to problem just like this one. So if we really like your idea, we may see about using it in our film. If you can put together a 60 second video that can explain it to us, we’ll post in on our blog and maybe use it or send a camera crew to your place to talk to you and find out how you came up with the idea or what inspired its creation if your interested. So let the ideas fly!
